NAVSEA received the 2011 Thompson-Ravitz Award in the Proactive Public Information/Media Relations—Shore, Large category for coverage of its Alternative
Fuel Certification Efforts. These efforts included the successful demonstration of the 50/50 algae derived, hydro processed algal oil and petroleum blend in a Landing Craft, Air Cushioned (LCAC) amphibious transport vehicle at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Panama City Florida. Nakuuruq’s Media team helped spearhead information flow of this event across Navy communication channels with photography, video and web initiatives. The tests also marked the fastest speed achieved to date by a U.S. Navy surface craft using alternative fuel blends, as the LCAC achieved the crafts maximum speed of 50 knots. The Thompson-Ravitz Award is the highest public affairs honor awarded by the Navy.
